History

Brixham Theatre’s roots trace back to the late 19th century when it served as a gathering place for various events, including concerts, lectures, and amateur dramatic performances. Over the years, Brixham Theatre underwent several renovations and upgrades. These efforts aimed to enhance its facilities, acoustics, and overall appeal.
However, it does have tales of a spooky past.
Brixham Theatre is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of actor John Slater. A versatile character actor, Slater appeared in various shows, including “Pinky and Perky,” “Jackanory,” and “Z Cars.” After a refurbishment in 1973, he took charge of the theatre and performed Whitehall Farces during two summer seasons. Sadly, Slater passed away in 1975.

Paranormal

His spectral presence lingers. Witnesses claim to have seen him treading the boards, still wearing the costume from his last performance. Additionally, the curtains have been known to draw themselves.one front row seat has been known to be down as though he is sat there . Is it John or any of the spirits that haunt this wonderful theatre.

We also heard with our own ears a whistle near the back of the auditorium. Shivers and spirit attached to an old leather bag . Fascinating building with presence and style. With a spirit holding onto the lighting and jumping from chair to chair on our SLS cam .
