History
Elvetham hall is suffused with history. Tales are woven through its ancient parkland and grade 2 listed building gently and sympathetically restored built in 1591.
The hall has seen many owners through mediaeval Tudor through Jacobean and the Civil War. There’s so much history with generations of Seymours, one of whom became Henry the eighth‘s greatest love and mother of the next king.
We have been given exclusive access to St Mary’s church, which was built originally as a timber frame in 1086 in 1648 from records of the church register the stone church was built as you see today, which is undergoing restoration. It is being restored sympathetically by the Matharu family. St Mary’s was deconsecrated in 1969 and is now going to be an events space. We also have exclusive access to the graveyard and grounds which have been beautifully manicured and are well worth a look in the dark.
