Fort Purbrook

Purbrook was built at the same time as the rest of the Forts around Portsmouth and was finished in 1870.

It was one of the last to be completed and as such has more modern Victorian defence elements to it and like many forts it has myths and mysteries and local legends attached to it but the Fort was of course mainly used by the military up to the 1960s. It saw action in both World Wars being used as a home guard, training site, military equipment and vehicle depot, pre-Europe bound soldier station and Navy and RAF radar training facility.

It was left to the local council in the 1960s, there followed neglect and vandalism due to it being empty. In the early 1980s local counsellor Peter Ashley took it on as a place for young children to enjoy some sporting activities outside the city.

People have reported stones being thrown and shadowy figures towering over them in the foreboding tunnels. Footsteps can be heard wandering in and out of the passageways.

Fort Purbrook is known to be haunted. Many ghost hunting groups have been here before so join us on this investigation to see if we can experience any of the paranormal activity that goes on in the tunnels.
